"What happens on the ship, stays on the ship" was one of many catchy phrases on the backs of krewe members' shirts on the float "Barque-ing for Bones & Treasure."
What happened on the ship, we'll never know. The float members were keeping a tight lip, except for the occasional tongue hanging out for a lick or with a pant. These bulldogs were riding high on the high seas with the winning float in the eighth annual Mystic Krewe of Mutts parade, "Pawrates of the Caribbean - Barkin' for Bones & Treasure," Feb. 11.
The swashbucklers were one of hundreds celebrating Mardi Gras canine-style in the all-dog (and human) parade downtown. Reigning over the festivities were King VooDoo and Queen Bethany, recent adoptees from the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society. Cane II of Raising Canes fame served as grand marshal.
Before the parade rolled, spectators and participants were treated to Bark in the Park in the Municipal Building parking lot on North Boulevard, where local rescue groups set up shop, a few pups got adopted and even more enjoyed a bit of shopping with their owners.
Krewe of Mutts benefits CAAWS and is the organization's largest fund-raiser.
